What does Au-Pair actually mean?

The term Au-Pair originally comes from the French term "on par" which
means mutual. An Au-Pair lives like a family member in a host family and
performs tasks and duties in return.

Au-Pairing is not only an opportunity to improve one’s language skills, but
a life experience, from which one certainly profits in the long term.
With regard to your further career aspirations the demand for international
experience is gaining more and more importance.

What duties does an Au-Pair have?

The duties extend from child care (which represents the actual emphasis) to support the host family in everyday housework. The period in which these daily activities have to be carried out depends on the routine of the host family and the traditions and customs of the country itself.

  What does an Au-Pair receive?

From the host family the Au-Pair receives free board and lodging, an own room, monthly pocket money, insurance and the opportunity to join a course in a language school.
